A Quick Guide by Premier Food Choice: Grill-less Ways to Cook Your Steak

No grill? No problem!

While many may argue that nothing beats the charred, juicy goodness of steaks fresh off the grill, we’re letting you in on two tried-and-tested tips for cooking your steaks indoors that will change the way you look at grill-less steaks forever. They may not seem like innovative life hacks, and on the contrary, they’re quite simple. But trust us, if these methods are done right, they may just convince you to skip the grilling all together!

These are great for people without a grill at home, for condo-dwellers without the proper space or ventilation for a grill fest, or for those of you who simply want to skip the fancy food rituals and go straight to eating. And with the rainy season well on its way, these tips are here to save our steak days. All you need are top-quality steaks from Premier Food Choice, basic kitchen tools and some pro tips from a fellow steak lover to another. Let’s get started!

BAKE & FRY

Grill or no grill, the real key to a scrumptious steak is to keep it juicy on the inside and cook it to a crisp on the outside. Because grilling is known to be the easiest way to achieve this, we often think that any other method will automatically dry out our steaks. Well, think again.

This Bake & Fry method is the next best thing at giving you that tender-crispy combo. It first involves slow-roasting your Premier Food Choice steak in the oven to evenly cook all surfaces while keeping the juices intact. Once cooked to your desired doneness, transfer your Premier Food Choice steak into a pan for frying. A few minutes is all it takes – just long enough to develop an outer layer with the right amount of crunch without overcooking or over drying.

Pro Tips:

Pre-heating is a must! This goes for both baking and frying steps. This will get your temperature to the desired level before adding in your steak. Otherwise, you are in danger of overcooking without you knowing it, resulting in a dry and tough steak.

When baking, place your steak in a rack so that all surfaces are evenly leveled and exposed to the oven heat. We recommend baking in a 250F oven for around 10-20 minutes, depending on your desired doneness. Check in every now and then to monitor its tenderness.

When pan-frying, be generous with your oil and use high heat to get that charred texture. We recommend frying each side for 2-3 minutes then adding an additional 1 minute for the edges.

Avoid cutting or slicing into your steak during the cooking process. Keep the juices in as much as possible.

Make sure to let your steak cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and eating.

AIRFRYER

If you’re on the fence about the Air Fryer hype, this might just change your mind. Lauded as one of greatest kitchen inventions in recent years, the Air Fryer is a convenient and healthy alternative to cooking, roasting and frying without the need for oil or even effort for that matter. Just top your Premier Food Choice steaks with butter (or better yet, garlic butter!), set the timer for your desired doneness, and sit back while the Air Fryer works its magic.

Because the device is compact and equipped with a fan system, the temperature remains consistent all throughout the cooking process and saves you the struggle of having to check in. Once the timer goes off, you’re rewarded with a well-cooked steak. If you’re a one-and-done kind of cook, this is perfect for you.

Pro Tips:

Again, pre-heating is crucial! Preheat your Air Fryer at 400F.

For medium-rare doneness, the rule of thumb is to let it cook for 7-9 minutes depending on the thickness.

For medium doneness, 10-14 minutes is recommended and will depend on the thickness.

At the halfway time mark, open your Air Fryer and flip your steak.

Do not pile your steaks on top of each other. Make sure they’re flat on the basket for even cooking.
